Kevlar^® Aramid Fibre Sewing Thread, up to 170 °C

The word 'aramid' is a contraction of 'aromatic polyamide'. The chemical name is para phenylene terephthalamide or PPD-T. Created in the 1960’s, aramid fibres consist of yellow filaments of about ten microns in diameter, assembled into threads.

Kevlar^® threads can continuously withstand 170 °C. Beyond this, the mechanical and dimensional characteristics decrease (slow carbonisation of the polymer) up to their decomposition temperature of 425 °C. Easier to handle than fibreglass threads, they are used in many technical fields.

Storage of Kevlar^®Aramid Thread

Aramid yarns must be stored away from UV radiation, in black packaging. Excessive exposure to UV radiation will result in the yellowing of the yarn, and the impairment of its tensile strength.

Continuous filaments:

060-0010: 130 – 150 Nm

Non-continuous filaments:

060-0020: 120 – 140 Nm
060-0030: 110 – 130 Nm
060-0040: 100 – 120 Nm

Kevlar® Sewing Thread

Kevlar ® sewing thread is perfect for making high temperature resistant garments. It can also be used in the manufacture of safety clothing and composite materials. Very easy to use during the making, it is however necessary to use a suitable cutting system (special aramid chisel for example). The Kevlar ® yarn is available in 0.23 mm, 0.30 mm, 0.40 mm, and 0.51 mm diameters, sold in 3000 m reels.
