Magnesium oxide powder
Overview of magnesium oxide powder
Magnesium oxide powder is both an excellent electrical insulator and a very good thermal conductor. It properties are appreciated in the thermal industry as a component of thermocouples and heating systems. The powder is synthesised by calcining magnesium carbonate or magnesium hydroxide.
Available in 94% to 99.6% purity, these powders can be applied by dry pressing or injection moulding. Our powder grades vary depending on:
- Purity
- Grain size and distribution
Applications for magnesium oxide powder
Due to its high thermal conductivity, excellent electrical insulation and high melting point, MgO powder is suitable for high temperature applications.
- Manufacture of components for temperature measurement
- Manufacture of thermocouple cables
- Manufacture of heating and fire-resistant cables
- Manufacture of heat cartridges
Magnesium oxide can also take the form of sintered ceramics, particularly in crucibles, which are highly prized for their technical properties.
