Basalt Fibre Fabrics 700°C
Basalt Fibre Fabric, up to 700 °C
Basalt fibre has properties that are far superior to fibreglass. Basalt products resist extremely well. Their thermal and mechanical properties are far superior to fibreglass’. Heavier than carbon, they are still less expensive.
Basalt is a dark non-crystalline rock that comes from volcanic magma. It can be used for high temperature up to 700 °C as well as cryogenic applications down to -260 °C. Basalt remains flexible and easy to handle, even if the product loses its mechanical properties and becomes rigid under excessive tension. It resists acids and bases as well as UV and is waterproof.
Basalt fibre products are particularly popular in the automotive sector, as building materials in the form of non-woven needled felts, or as insulation materials for exhaust pipes, for example in the form of sheaths, strips or fabrics. Coated versions are ideal for fire barriers whereas uncoated versions are rather be used as moulds in the manufacture of composites.
Applications of Basalt Fabric
- Exhaust systems
- Insulation of pipes
- Electrical insulation
