Basalt Fibre Fabrics 800 °C

Basalt Fibre Fabrics, heat-resistant up to 800 °C

Basalt fibre fabric has properties that are far superior to glass fibre. Basalt fibre products offer extremely great resistance. Their thermal and mechanical properties are far superior to glass fibre's. Heavier than carbon, they are still less expensive.

Basalt is a dark non-crystalline rock that comes from volcanic magma. It can be used for applications involving operating temperatures up to 700 °C as well as peak temperature up to 800 °C. Basalt remains flexible and easy to handle, even if the product loses its mechanical properties and becomes rigid under excessive tension. It resists acids and bases as well as UV and is waterproof.

Basalt fibre fabrics are particularly popular in the automotive sector, as protection for motor components and insulators for exhaust pipes. Coated versions of basalt fabrics are ideal for fire barriers whereas uncoated basalt fibre fabrics are used as matrix in the manufacture of composites.

Final Advanced Materials offers basalt fibre fabrics untreated or with a clear water based Polyurethan (PU) coating. This tratement stabilises the fabric and reduces the mechanical irritations caused by the stiffness of loose filaments.
