Silicate Fibre Fabric, up to 1,100 °C

Silicate is a mineral made of silicon dioxide (SiO₂) and other metallic oxides, such as calcium, magnesium, aluminium, etc. Silicate fibre-based textiles offer different thermal, physical and mechanical properties depending on their level of silicon dioxide.

Silicate fibre is inorganic and contains no toxic substances. The good thermal and mechanical properties of this fibre make it an excellent alternative to ceramic fibre. These fibres pose no health risk when handling with its diameter of 9 μm and can withstand high temperatures better than glass or biosoluble fibres.

Silicate fibre fabrics offer great mechanical strength and chemical resistance. They also have excellent thermal resistivity. They are therefore suitable for high-temperature applications, such as the assembly of protective covers against sparks and metal splashes.

The silicate fibre fabrics proposed by Final Advanced Materials have at least 94 % of silicon dioxide. These fabrics are untreated or available with a vermiculite coating. This treatment enhances the properties of the textiles, including their resistance to abrasion or to peak temperatures. A pre-setting is also possible in order to stabilise textiles through the action of heat. Moreover, different declinations of the silicate fibre are available for silicate fibre fabrics.
